Prepare the Cake Batter
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line the cake pan with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
In a separate bowl, whisk the oil and sugar until combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
Fold in the chopped chocolate or walnuts, if using, for added texture.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Prepare the Frosting
Beat the softened butter until creamy.
Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing well.
Add milk and vanilla extract, adjusting the consistency as needed.
Assemble the Cake
Once the cake is completely cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
Garnish with a dusting of cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for an added touch.
